Rusthall Village Association     Newsletter Vol 1; No 3; October 2004

Jeff Kempster the Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Parks Manager addressed the Rusthall Village Association, regarding the proposed future of the playing fields in Southwood Road. Also, the possibility of including the unused end of the allotments in Southwood Road. Improvements to the Mary Caley recreation ground, at the corner of Meadow Road and Westwood Road were also addressed.

Tunbridge Wells requires more football facilities therefore their needs will be included in the Rusthall plan. The council does not own the Southwood Road field, but plan to purchase it.

Jeff Kempster mentioned that he prefers to consult with the residents. "We would rather listen to what is wanted, than us telling people what was wanted." Roads and changing room facilities were mentioned, also the possibility of a skate boarding area, coopting the use of the car park when not required for parking cars.

In the final plan the needs of toddlers and juniors will be accommodated and, a bike track is on a high priority list. Three new soccer pitches will definitely be created in the Southwood field.

This work will commence, as soon as the plan has been approved by the Rusthall Village Association. More parking spaces will also be necessary.

This plan is the result of nine years consultation. We were assured by Jeff Kempster, that there are sufficient funds available for the work and equipment that will be required.

Rusthall awaits the presentation of the final plans, when we as a village can discuss them at an RVA meeting that will be announced.

"What we need now is to see some action from the Borough Council" stated Jenny Blackburn, Chairperson of the RVA.

A lively question and answer session followed at the close of Jeff Kempster’s talk. Children present also participated, articulating their points very clearly. A parent commented. "We hear a lot about rudeness from children, but it’s not confined to the youngsters. At times children are subjected to dreadful rudeness from some adults." It was a point that perhaps some of us should take on board, and be mindful of our examples to the young.

The Rusthall Village Association is for ALL who reside in Rusthall. Through it you have a voice, your concerns will receive attention. Membership £3 per year.
